Just because it is October, and because I really start to feel festive and excited about all the fun holidays we have coming up, I decided to make Jackson a new pillowcase. I know I made him one last year too, but who can't use another fun pillowcase right?! :)
Here is a quick tutorial on how to do this easy project...
You'll need...
-3/4 of a yard (black piece of fabric) main body or pillowcase
-1/3 of a yard (green piece of fabric) cuff
-1/8 of a yard (orange piece of fabric) boarder
Take your black piece of fabric and cut it in half (down the pressed line from being on the bolt)
Once you have it cut, trim off the edges
Put the two black pieces right sides together and sew around the edges. Leave one of the smaller/shorter ends open.
Turn it Right Side out and Set that piece aside.
Take your orange fabric and fold it in half, trim off about 2 inches.
Take your orange piece and fold it in half hot dog style (ha.) with the right sides. Sew down that edge using the edge of your presser foot as your seam guide.
Turn it right side out.
Press fold along the seam (just makes it easier to work with)
Fold in the top edge of one side about a half inch.
Stick your other end into the side, you have folded, about a half inch.
Sew these two ends together.
Set this piece to the side.
Take your green piece of fabric and fold it and trim it about 2 inches.
Open it up and fold it in half lengthwise right sides together.
Sew along the long edge.
Once sewn turn right side out and press flat along the seam
Cut about 2.5 inches off of one of the ends.
Take and fold one end of the fabric inwards about a half inch.
Take the other end and tuck it into the folded edge about a half inch.
Stitch that cuff edge together.
Take and pin the three pieces together along the open edge of the main body (black piece of fabric) of the pillowcase. Put all the seams toward the edge.
Sew these pieces together using the edge of your presser foot as your seam allowance guide.
You could end here, but I thought it needed something else and we decided to add a spider to it at the last minute. So the black felt is a little hard to see, but hopefully you can see what we did.
For the Spider:
I cut out of Black Felt...
-a large circle for the body
-a smaller-ish circle out for a head
-and 8 legs.
I pinned all the pieces on so I would know where to sew.
***Just make sure the back of your pillowcase it out of the way so you don't end up sewing your pillowcase closed. :)
I sewed the legs on first (so they could tuck under the main body of the spider)
Then I sewed the main body on.
Then I sewed the head on.
Cute new Halloween Pillowcase...
This is adorable. We have pillowcases, but the spider is just the touch we are missing.
