I'm not sure if you have seen these popping up in stores around you, but I've been seeing these headbands (and I have been loving them) in small boutiques to large department stores, however I have not been willing to pay the $30-50 to own one. So I've been coveting them from afar, until the other day when I decided, I'd done enough wishing and it was time to just make one.
So I did.
It really isn't hard, you should all be able to do this. The feathers practically put themselves on the headband, so there really aren't a lot of details, but I will do my best at explaining.
***However, I must warn you that these really are a lot cuter in person than photographed. I wish I had taken better pictures of them in the daylight, but hopefully you get the idea.
First gather your materials:
Materials:
--Feathers: You can get a bag at a craft store for about $3.00
--Glue: I have a fast drying Fabric Tac glue that I used, but hot glue or any other favorite crafting glue should work. You can get glue at your craft store.
--Headband: I bought 3 headbands at Target for $4.00
--Cloth or Ribbon: It doesn't really matter which, but you need a base for working with the feathers.
***I tried adding buttons to mine, but in the end decided I liked them without, incase you are wondering about the buttons in this picture. :)
Headband Number One:
First: dump out your bag of feathers and get acquainted with what you have.
Second: Put glue on your headband
Third: start sticking feathers to the glue. I tried to keep the feathers mainly on the headband and not poking out too far in one direction or the other near the base of each side of the headband, just because it seemed like it would fit around my head a little easier like that.
Fourth: Keep gluing the feathers on. Let the feathers spread out and angle them to hang off the headband on each side.
Fifth: Let it dry.
Sixth: Wear your cute new headband.
Second Headband:
First: Cut a circle a little bigger than the size of a quarter out of a piece of fabric/cloth.
Second: Glue five feathers, fanning out, to the top edge of your piece of cloth.
Third: Glue five more smaller feathers on top of those original five feathers.
Fourth: Keep layering and adding feathers until you have the desired size and shape. And your cloth piece is covered.
Fifth: Glue your feathery creation to your headband.
Sixth: Take your other piece of cloth (that you cut out) and place it opposite your feathers and glue it (it helps to hold the feathers on and in place).
Seventh: Let it dry
Eighth: Wear it.
Lets just say that I was able to create the feather headband look for a heck of a lot cheaper than what is being sold out there and I am quite pleased with the results. I hope you all have fun creating your own headbands.
I think they're FABULOUS! I'm a huge headband girl and I'm excited about this! I'll be linking.
